A Trip To Voodoo Village

Intro
Based on a real place outside of Memphis, TN, Voodoo Village is an actual place where the religion is practiced. A group of villagers guard the area and don't take to kindly to visitors or flash photography. But a group of kids didn't believe that the religion was real, or that the villagers would do anything about trespassers.

Chapter 1- The Challenge

Jeff Bridges is a student at Bolton High School and a part of his senior football team. He is the school's first-string quarterback and has college recruiters always looking his way. The group he mainly hangs out with is all a part of the team. His younger brother Matt is a second string wide receiver that is also on the senior division of the team.

Jeff's girlfriend Ashley Marshall is a part of the cheerleading team. They've been dating for a little more than two years and Jeff has never been happier. Matt is dating Ashley's best friend Heather Ward. Matt and her met a couple of months ago while he was at the mall with Jeff and Ashley. After a few dates it was official with the two of them.

Last but not least there is Charles Medford. Charles has known Jeff since middle school. Charles is the school's star running back and is also on his way to the top. Charles is very shy and has a hard time meeting girls. Jeff and Ashley try to set him up with different girls they know but he just hasn't connected with anyone yet.
After a big game with Arlington High School, a couple of the guys went out to celebrate. Jeff was walking to his truck talking to Charles about the good and bad plays of the game.

"That was amazing Charles, which colleges did you say were looking at you?" Jeff asked amazed at what was easily the best game of the season. "A couple of different ones Florida State, UT Knoxville, but one I'm really excited about is Arkansas State." Charles said with the same, if not more, excitement in his voice.

"That was just insane, you ran and scored three of the five touchdowns we scored."

"It was pretty good," Charles said with a little bit of pride in his voice, "But hey you didn't do too bad yourself Jeff, you nearly threw the perfect game, except for the one interception."

"The only problem with me throwing that interception was that that was the one they scored on. But I guess I did do good." he said with that same pride sound in his voice. They both laughed as they loaded their shoulder pads and helmets into his truck bed.

"Dude, I still can't believe that your dad bought you this truck as your graduation present." Charles said still with a sound of surprise in his voice.
Charles' family had never been very wealthy and that was why Charles worked so hard in football and in school. Jeff, on the other hand, was not in the same situation. Jeff and Matt's father was actually very wealthy. He had a great job, and knew how to manage his money perfectly. Since he saw that more than likely Jeff was going to get a free ride to college on a sports scholarship he went and bought him a new Ford F-150. Matt was jealous at first but came to realize that Jeff deserved it, and he would get one also if he played his cards right. As the perfect game ended and the girls and Matt walked up to join them, so did Adam Brown. Adam was the team's second-string quarterback that was always just full of himself.

"That was an amazing game," Adam said continuing Charles and Jeff's conversation. "Only if you wouldn't have thrown that one bad pass, " he laughed with sarcasm in his voice. "That wouldn't have happened if I was in the game." Adam said going from laughing too serious in one voice.

Ashley started to say, "Well you weren't in the game." but Jeff stopped her. "Well maybe, but we will never know, because while I was being ‘First string' and on the field, you were being ‘Second string' on the sidelines."
Everyone started laughing except for Adam who got mad. Adam went to say something but stopped because he knew it wouldn't make an effect on Jeff.

"So what's on the game plan?" Matt said asking about what they were going to do. Besides Adam everyone started laughing again and Adam was on the edge of breaking.

"I don't know " Jeff said, " what about you girls?" Ashley looked at Heather and they both shrugged their shoulders, signaling that they didn't know either.

"I know I want to have a good, exciting time after hard work like that." Charles said with a laugh.

"What did you have in mind?" Jeff asked with a grin.

"Well something exciting, something that will continue this great feeling after the game, something fun."

Adam smiled.

"What are you smiling at?" Charles laughed.

"I have an idea." Adam said with a smirk on his face. "I've heard of a place that describes what you said perfectly." Adam said.

"And what would that be?" Jeff said with a ‘Yeah right" in his voice.

"I've heard of this place around the corner called Voodoo Village, and I can guarantee, it will be exciting."

"Whatever" Jeff said with a nervous laugh that he tried to hide. Jeff had heard rumors; stories, very disturbing tales and he didn't want anything to do with it.

"Yeah, get out of here with that lame crap, it isn't anything but a deserted area." Matt said trying to back up his brother. But Matt also knew of the tales.

A kid in his grade went towards the area trying to show people that he wasn't afraid of anything. The camera he used to show that he was there was found a couple weeks ago in a ditch close to the area.

All the tape showed, by what Matt heard, was him walking into an area that was lit by nothing but a fire. The camera suddenly dropped and all you could hear was screaming. Next you saw a man walking with the kid's limp body toward the fire. The camera lay there until the battery died. The kid is considered still missing, but the students in his grade knew that wasn't true.

"You all are a bunch of chicken shits." Adam said with the same laugh he had when he walked up. He started to walk away slowly, waiting for what he wanted to hear.

"Fine, we'll go." Jeff said looking from the girls to the guys to make sure they were ok with it.

"That's good," Adam said, "Maybe you do have some balls."

" Well, you lead the way in your old hunk of junk," Jeff laughed, "We'll follow you. "

Jeff, as well as anyone else, knew Adam's car wasn't a hunk of junk. Jeff didn't know the year but he knew it was a Chevy El Camino SS. Old yes, but man was it powerful.

Jeff, Matt, Charles and the girls all got into Jeff's truck. Jeff's truck wasn't too slow either. He had worked on it quite a bit, added some bolt-on power here and there, it was mostly a stock engine, but it could get the job done.
They both started up their rides, and started to pull out of the parking lot. Jeff turned up his radio to show off to the rest of the players and girls that were still in the lot. Adam pulled out of the lot first, and headed for the light up the street. Jeff pulled out right after Adam and bolted off to keep up with him.

Jeff arrived at the red light not two seconds after Adam did. Adam rolled his window down and Jeff did the same. Adam turned down his music to tell Jeff the directions. "Go up the street past two lights and take a left, you will pass a couple of small streets and it will start to look like the middle of nowhere, which it is, you will eventually come to a small clearing and you will see a yellow school bus, and there you are."

"Ok, I'll meet you there" Jeff said starting to get a little bit cocky about his truck.

Adam just smiled and said, "Last one there is a rotten egg."
Adam hit the gas to show off the power of his engine. Everybody in Jeff's truck started to get excited and yell. They all were yelling their own versions of ‘mess him up' and ‘you can beat him'. They stared each other down and waited for green. Then it came, and they both took off.

2

After they had both took the left at the light; it was a basic drag race all the way to the clearing. Jeff saw the school bus and tried to speed up, but Adam had beaten him there.

Jeff pulled up next to where Adam parked, and everyone started to say ‘aw man' and how he cheated, but Jeff knew he had been beaten. Adam got out of his car, as everyone got out of Jeff's truck. Adam raised both of his hands in a sign of victory. "I guess you're the rotten egg." He said with a laugh.

"Whatever." Jeff said and tried to change the subject. Jeff looked around and didn't see much. A small path went through a set of trees and that was it. "So what's the hype all about?" Jeff asked trying to not get spooked. He was always able to get a feeling when something was wrong. He was already getting that feeling.

"Well let's go in and have some fun." Adam said with a smile. Jeff looked to the girls and then to the guys. They all gave him a look of worry, but at the same time it was saying Ok.

3

The guys headed in first, with Adam leading the way, and the girls followed.
The girls would both fit into that popular prom queen category. Ashley was of course a cheerleader. Tonight she was wearing jeans and a long sleeve shirt with the school mascot on it. Even though she was all covered up she was still cold. Ashley shivered. Heather looked at her with concern.

"You ok girl?" she asked.

"Yeah, it's just a little cold to my liking."

Heather was confused. Yeah it was spring with a little over a month till summer, but in no way was it cold to her. "Ok well if you need a jacket, I have one in my bag."

Heather always wore her book bag, no matter were she was. It was almost apart of her fashion. She must have had at least a dozen different bags of all different designs. Heather wasn't cold and she was wearing a short skirt, and a tank top. Matt hated the way she dressed. He was sometimes concerned she dressed like that more for other guys than for him. She called it dressing sexy. He called it dressing like a whore.

The weather wasn't what was giving Ashley chills. The feeling was very awkward, and scary. She was nervous, because she had also heard stories. Either Adam was desperate to show Jeff up or he had a lot of guts.

Heather didn't believe in any of this mumbo jumbo that everyone said about the place. She brought her own camera to show that it was just an abandoned lot.

4

They all walked into the so-called village. They all stood there and looked around. "This is it." Heather said with a shake of the head saying that the hype was just that, hype. She pulled out her video camera and turned it on. The flash of the camera signaled that the camera was on and recording. Dusk was setting and it was getting dark. Heather turned the light on so the audience she planned to show this to could see. She faced the camera towards herself and started to speak to her future audience.

"Hi, my name is Heather Ward and I'm at Voodoo Village and these are the people I'm with." She turned the camera towards the group. "This is Jeff and Matt Bridges." The guys waved with a concerned and slight look of shock on their face. The guys had heard of what really set off the villagers. Matt heard that the camera's flash photography was what caused the kid who previously went there to disappear.

"This is my best friend Ashley Marshall." Heather turned the camera towards Ashley. She waved also with the same two looks Matt and Jeff gave. She had also heard of those rumors.

"This is Charles Medford." she said as she turned the camera to him.

"What's up guys." he said with a laugh. Charles was like Heather. He heard the rumors but didn't believe.

"Last but not least, this dip-shit is known as Adam Brown." Adam looked at the camera and flipped her and the camera the bird. She turned the camera back towards herself and started to speak again.

"So that's who's with me, and we are going to take you on a tour of this deserted place." Little did she know, they were not the only people who were with them, for they were being watched.

Chapter 2- The Villagers

They started to walk into the village and look around. They didn't see much. A couple of huts, that looked deserted, was about it.

"Hey, lets go into one of them." Adam said still with an excited voice. Jeff looked at everyone and back at Adam.

"Ok whatever." Jeff said still worried.

Adam smiled, "Ok this one looks good." he said pointing to the closest one.
The huts were built out of common forest materials. Sticks, branches, stones, and other things to hold them together. The materials were ordinary but that was not what confused Jeff. The huts were put together very well. Not shaggy at all, well crafted and precisely shaped. It looked like the materials were shaved and cut with simple knives.

He thought about the situation. If there were villagers here, then they never left the area, so how could they get these items, and if there wasn't anyone here then how are these here? He shook his head and tried to forget the thought.

Adam led the way as they all walked into the hut, that was quite big compared to what it looked like outside. Once they were in, they were shocked at what they found. There were different kinds of weird looking jewelry hanging from the ceiling. There were also these strange markings on the walls that looked like they were painted with old blood.

"This is boring." Jeff said trying to rush the group to get out of the hut.

"All right Jeffy Poo." Adam said acting like he was talking to a baby. He led the group out of the hut as he started to look for something to do.

Heather stayed in the hut for a few extra minutes to get the different objects on film. "These look like some kind of symbols of a lost language." she said pointing to the symbols on the walls talking to the camera. But she then heard a rustle outside and she quickly turned the camera towards the small hole about midway up the wall. It served as a window more than likely, but right now it served as a look out. A villager had been watching her since the others left. When her eyes met the villagers, he took off.
She was temporarily stunned. She couldn't believe what she saw. She rushed out of the hut to see if she could find the villager. She saw nothing but her friends a little ways up.

"Guys wait!" she screamed trying to get their attention. She stopped screaming. She suddenly felt scared, she felt as if she was being watched by more than one villager. She didn't want to attract any more attention to herself. She was nervous, twenty minutes ago she truly believed that this was all hype, but now she was scared.

The group turned, looked at her and yelled, "Hurry up, what are you doing?" She ran and caught up with the group.

"What were you doing?" Ashley asked looking at Heather funny.

"I stayed back to get a better look at the symbols for the camera, and I saw someone."

Charles started to laugh, "Right Heather, and what did this person look like?" he said still with a laugh.

"He was naked from the waist up but that was the only part of him I saw. He had different markings on him and it was just weird." Heather said still scared.

Jeff looked at her with concern, and asked "Well, did you catch him after you got out of the hut?"

She shook her head and said, "No, he basically just disappeared."

Jeff didn't know what to believe. He could either believe what he heard from other kids that had previously been here, or believe what Heather was saying while she didn't even believe in the stories.
"Come on," Charles said, "If you're going to play a joke to try and scare us at least do it right." Jeff agreed but was still nervous about blocking out the idea that someone was here.

Adam sighed. "Are you guys done yet, I'm still in the mood to look around."

"Yeah, come on." Charles said as he started to follow Adam further into the town. The group started walking except for Heather. She paused for a moment and looked around but quickly caught up with them.

2

The group kept walking through the village in till they heard a crackling noise. The noise was hidden by a tree that was the start of a turn into another part of the village.

They turned the corner to see a bon fire burning big and bright. Everyone's eyes shot wide open out of shock. The ones it scared the most were Jeff and Heather. The fire was here but nobody was around. Now even Adam was getting worried.

Adam started looking around nervously. Then behind them they heard a rustling in a bush. They all turned around in one big movement to see what or who was there. They now saw the bush moving, but none of them moved. They seemed paralyzed almost, like each of their bodies weighed a ton. Even their lungs filled with the paralyzed feeling as none would or could breathe. Charles finally got some words out, but it wasn't easy.

"Well... I'll go since none of you will." he said with both a sarcastic and nervous sound in his voice. He walked slowly towards the noise and the movement in the bushes. He edged closer and closer to the bushes in till he was almost right in front of the moving bushes, when what made the noise came out.

He screamed and flinched, as did the others, until he realized what it was. It was a dog, just a medium sized dog, but something was wrong. The animal was dragging its back left leg. The dog's leg looked as if it were slowly decaying. In fact up to the dog's chest it looked as if its whole body was decaying.
"What the..." Charles said with the fear getting bigger and bigger. "Uh guys." he said with a quiver.

"Yeah." Jeff said with the same lower lip-biting quiver in his voice.

Charles started to say, " I think something is..." when he was yanked into the bushes by something the group behind couldn't see, but they could hear him scream.

Heather shut the camera and put it into her jacket pocket. The whole group tried to scream and run to him but the same feeling came back. Jeff, Matt, and Adam got the courage back first and were able to make their way over to the bushes, while the girls stayed behind. Matt stumbled and tripped almost as soon as they took off. Adam, and Jeff looked back but kept going, and made it there quickly.

Matt got up as quickly as he could but wasn't fast enough. When Adam and Jeff got to the bushes where Charles disappeared, they frantically searched throughout them. But as Matt made it about halfway to the bushes, Adam and Jeff were pulled into the bushes also. The guys let out the same agonizing scream that Charles had just let out moments ago. Matt was scared now and retreated back to the also screaming girls.

"Oh my god!" both Ashley and Heather let out as tears and screams of terror escaped them.

"Guys come on we have to get out of here." Matt said looking around worried that they could very well be next.

"Are you crazy, you asshole, you'd leave your own brother behind for your own safety?" Ashley said going from sad to angry in a flash. "We are not going anywhere without them." Ashley said looking back and forth from Matt to Heather. "Right Heather?" she said looking deep and hard at Heather saying you better agree.

Heather was doing the looking now, from Ashley to Matt. She sighed and looked at Matt and said, "She's right baby." He shook his head in agreement.

"So what are we going to do?" he asked.

"Well, we don't need to take the chance of going over there, but we have to find them." Ashley said.

Chapter 3- Spells and Youth

The group was now made up of Ashley, Heather, and Matt. They started going back towards the beginning of the village and looking into all of the huts for anything new or different than before.

"So far no luck." Heather said starting to get down on the chances that they were going to find them. She tried not to let Ashley see, because she was in a different situation than her.

Heather still had Matt, but Ashley was losing the love of her life. Heather knew Ashley's dream. She wanted to grow old with Jeff, have a family, and as they say in the fairy tales ‘live happily ever after'. But all of that was slipping away as Heather could tell by the look in her friend's eyes.

"We have to keep looking." Ashley said, starting to tear back up.

"We are and we will Ashley." Heather said going over and hugging her friend.

"I'm so scared," Ashley said, "What would I do without him?" she said going from tearing up to almost sobbing.

" Don't worry about that " Heather said with an attempt to relax her friend.

Ashley looked up, still with tears in her eyes, "How could you say that?" she said almost screaming. "My boyfriend is out there, possibly dead, and you want me to relax!" she said half angry and half sad.

"No, let me finish," Heather said staying calm, "You won't need to worry about it, because we are going to find them." Ashley smiled but still with tears swelling.

2

They started to head back towards the area where the fire, and the bushes accident happened. They went over to about where Matt was when he stopped, and they saw something. It was the dog that Charles was talking about before he was pulled in. But there was something very wrong. There was nothing left of the dog except for his head.

It was still covered in fur but the dog was already dead. They all were confused and shocked about where the rest of it was. Then they looked back towards the bushes, and noticed something. There was a trail of small white bits of powder, but as it got closer and closer to the dog head, it was more solid.

"What in the hell is that?" Heather asked as she put the camera on it.

Ashley knelt down and looked closer at the object. "It looks like a bone." Ashley said just barely getting the words out. She looked up at Heather, and gave her a dirty look.

"What?" Heather asked wondering what she did.

"You still have that thing."

" Yeah, why?" Heather responded.

" It's just... " Ashley started but stopped when she heard a noise. She looked over and then down to where the dog head was. The head was slowly losing fur, and the skull was starting to show. The noise was different parts of the skull cracking into smaller shards.

"What in the hell is happening?" Matt said starting to get scared again.
"I don't know but we better find the guys quick." Ashley said. Then they all heard another noise.

They walked back towards the tree that started the curve. They reached it and the fire was still burning, except now there were people there. Matt saw a small path leading to a wall of bushes and trees, but it looked like they would be able to see what was going on better from there. "Come on," he said, "We can see better over there." Matt said pointing to the path. The girls just shook their head and followed.

3

The group got to the area and looked through the gaps in the trees to see what was happening. They figured out that the noise they heard was chanting, but what they saw was more devastating.

All three guys were tied down to three different wood poles. They girls and Matt could see what was going on, but were having a hard time hearing. But seeing was just about all they could take.

The villagers started to get quieter with the chants, until they were completely silent. A man with a big stick started to speak in a very loud voice. The stick and himself were decorated with what looked like the decorations from the hut earlier.

He was speaking in a language that was very different than English, but was somewhat translatable. The words the group were able to make out were weird and frightening. They heard award, honor and sacrifice a number of times in the speech.

The chief signaled for one of the villagers to come forward. As soon as the boy stood up, Heather recognized him. "That's the boy from earlier," she said with an ‘I told you so' in her voice.

"What do you mean?" Ashley asked confused, trying to think of what Heather was talking about.

"Remember when you guys thought I was playing a joke on you?" Ashley thought for a second and her eyes suddenly got wide. Heather saw the look and said yeah with the same ‘I told you so' tone in her voice. They turned their attention back to the villagers, as the man started to speak again.

"I'm guessing that's the chief." Matt said, breaking the silence momentarily. The assumed chief signaled for another villager to bring him something. A villager stood up and handed him what looked like a knife. The girls didn't know what to think, as did Matt. They soon found out what it was for though. The boy stood still but the chief walked over to Jeff, Adam, and Charles. The boys were scared to death, and it was easy to see. This somehow made the chief smile. He went to Jeff first and looked him in the eye. Ashley's eyes started to tear up again. The chief ripped apart Jeff's shirt, showing his bare chest.

The chief's smile got bigger as Ashley's tears came faster. The chief lifted the knife and slowly dragged it down Jeff's chest. Jeff screamed in pain and started to curse the man. "You sick fuck!" Jeff screamed at the man. The chief slapped him in the face and Jeff quickly stopped. The chief brought his fingers to Jeff's chest, and dug them into the cut. Jeff screamed again but held back saying anything. Ashley was sobbing now and Heather held her both for comfort and to make sure she didn't take off.

The chief did the same to Charles and Adam. He ripped their shirts, cut them, and dug his fingers in them and pulled them out covered in blood. He now had Jeff, Adam, and Charles's blood on his hand. He walked back over to the boy he first called up and started to speak again. They heard the same award and honor again.

The chief had Jeff's blood on one finger, Adam's on another, and Charles's on another. He dragged the finger with Jeff's on it across the boy's forehead, then Charles's on the right cheek, and Adam's on the left one. The girls and Matt felt sick and horrified.

What happened next would be scarred in their minds for the rest of their lives. The chief started to speak again but they were unable to understand any words. The villagers all started to move and line up in a horizontal single file line. There had to be at least twenty of them in the row. The chief walked back over to the guys and got more blood on his hand. This time though, he wiped it on them.

He started to speak again and his words started coming out faster and faster. The fire grew bigger, and the villagers started to chant again. All of a sudden the guys bodies started jerking back and forth. Ashley started sobbing again.

"What's going on, what's happening to them?" she asked pulling on Heather almost begging her for an answer.

"I don't know." she said as she reached into her pocket and pulled out the camera. She focused it on the horrifying scene in front of her. The guys' bodies stopped flailing and their bodies started getting skinner. Heather noticed that their legs were doing it faster than the rest of their body. Adam's pants dropped and it showed his briefs. Heather thought of a joke but it was not the right time. She still laughed in her mind as she thought ‘no wonder he's got such a big ego, it's got to make up for something else.'

The villagers got louder and louder chanting the same lines over and over again. The boys screamed and screamed and one after another their legs broke. They dropped slightly from their poles, but the ropes holding them on were much tighter. Ashley's jaw dropped and she turned away. Heather looked to her but quickly looked back.

The boys chests started to collapse next. Matt almost turned away also at the site of his brother being slowly killed. The boys' bodies started to shake again, but for a short time. They suddenly stopped and all three of their jaws dropped. A teal colored mist slowly came out of all three of their mouths in till it was one big cloud. The boys' bodies went limp after the mist had escaped them completely.

The Chief laughed and started to suck in the mist. His chest was growing larger and larger to almost inhuman size. The villagers stopped chanting. The chief had sucked in every bit of the mist and held it in. Heather looked closely and saw that the chief swallowed some of the mist. She noticed quickly that his skin got tighter, his wrinkles went away, and his muscles got slightly larger.

He then started to blow the mist into the villagers. The villagers did the same, they sucked in a little and swallowed and the same happened to them. The chief blew more in certain areas that seemed to have older members. He blew the mist in till there was no more. The villagers started to scream as what seemed a celebration started.

"Oh my god." Heather said realizing what just happened. The chief has just sucked the life and soul out of what was her friends, and blew it into his village to give them back a few years of youth. Ashley was still turned. "We have to go." Heather said looking at the group. Ashley started to put up a fight but Heather talked her out of it.

"They're dead," she quickly got through to her, "And if we don't hurry we'll be next." Ashley shook her head and accepted that she had lost her true love. " Ok let's go " Heather said as she shut her camera. The camera flashed a light that grabbed the attention of a near by villager. He started to scream to alert the group. Heather looked up and they saw her. " Shit, we have to get the hell up out of here " she said starting help Ashley up and started to run. The chief pointed at Heather, Ashley, and Matt and ordered the village to follow and catch them.

Chapter 4- The Chase for Escape

The group took off and the village was not far behind. The group ran all the way to the entrance without tripping or falling. The group had the truck and car in sight.

"Shit!" Heather said with anger and fatigue in her voice.

"What?" Ashley said as they got to Jeff's truck and opened the doors. Ashley took the drivers seat, Heather was in the passenger and Matt was in the back. Heather breathed for a second and started to say you don't have the keys. Ashley pulled open the center console and picked up a pair. "Spare he gave me." she said while starting it up.

The villagers were in sight and Heather was screaming go. Ashley put the truck in reverse and got in position. The villagers started to slow as they saw the kids escape. She put it in drive and sped down the road they came in. Matt stared back and made sure there was nothing still coming.
"We escaped." Heather said with a sigh of relief.

"Yeah we did, but at what cost?" Ashley said. "I lost my boyfriend"
"I lost my brother," Matt broke in.

"And I can guarantee we will never forget this." Ashley finished.

Chapter 5- Respect and Forget

The funeral for the kids was about a month after the night of their trip. The funeral was held all three of the boys at the same time. The three coffins were empty because the bodies couldn't be found, and the group didn't want anyone to look. The coffins were lined vertically in a row of three.
The principle of the school spoke right before the funeral was dismissed.

"These boys were stars with a bright future ahead, but it burned out far to quickly. Our only hope is that they are in a place where they are to be forever happy. The school will honor the boys at the school's next game. After that a memorial will be made to sit in the area in front of the trophies at the entrance of the school to let current students know that we will always remember, and to inform future students of the great students, athletes, and kids that we have lost, thank you." The crowd started to clap as the principle stepped down from the podium.

As everybody was walking out of the entrance of the graveyard Matt and his father came up to Ashley. Ashley was wiping the tears from her eyes when Matt started to say something.

"How are you holding up?" he asked.
"I'll be ok." she said, tearing back up.

"Well, I went into Jeff's room and found something." Ashley looked up at him curious of what he was talking about. Matt pulled out a small velvet box. Her lower lip quivered as he handed it to her. She opened it and it had a diamond ring inside. She looked at Matt and his father confused but at the same time she almost knew what was going to be said.
"He talked to me, his mother, and Matt the other night on what he wanted to do." Matt's father said. She looked back at the ring, and smiled but at the same time started to sob. "He was waiting for you guys to go to dinner somewhere fancy next week."
She smiled and looked at both of them, "Thank you, thank you so much."

Matt smiled and gave her a hug. His father walked over and patted her on the back, "You know, if you need anything just ask." he said with a smile.

"Well I'm going to go find my mom." Matt said.

"I guess I'll go with him." his dad chuckled.

"Ok, I'll see you guys later." she said.

Heather walked up to check on Ashley. Ashley was still holding the ring just looking it over and over.

"You ok girl?" heather asked.
" Yeah, but look." she said showing Heather the ring.

"I know, Matt told me a couple nights after he found out and I promised him I wouldn't say anything." Heather said with almost a guilty look on her face. "Can I do anything for you?" Heather asked trying to change the subject.

"Yeah, do you still have that tape? "

"Yeah it's at home, why?" Heather asked confused. She thought ‘why would she want that after seeing her boyfriend die like that?'

"I want you to go to school and give it to somebody you don't know, I don't care if it's the janitor, boy, girl whatever, I don't ever want to see it again. I also want others to know that this place is no joke " Ashley said. Heather shook her head.

2

The Monday after the funeral, Heather went to school with a mission. She bumped into a girl in the hallway, and the girl turned to look at Heather.

"Hey what the..." she said as heather turned around and handed her the tape.

"Watch, listen, and pass the message along" Heather said, then turned and kept walking.
